Message from the Principal

As the year draws to a close I’d like to share some of the wonderful opportunities that students at Westgrove have had this term. We had a very successful fete which raised considerable funds but was also successful from the students’ point of view as they were busily occupied for the duration of the fete and really enjoyed the activities.

There were excursions to Scienceworks, Werribee Mansion, VSECC and the Zoo. The 5/6 Hooptime team managed to place 5th in the State- what an achievement! The Year 5 cohort participated in the Formula One program- designing and making vehicles to race and a small group of students competed throughout the year in a Robotics competition and received the judge’s award in the last competition.

The Year 3 students have made shoeboxes of love for those less fortunate than themselves. The Preps have performed for their families this week and the Year 4 students went on a very successful and stimulating camp.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the teachers for their hard work this year. It can be very challenging at times to cater for all the needs of the students in our school but the teachers work very hard to do this to the best of their ability. I would also like to thank all support staff- those in ES roles, the aides, teaching and learning assistants, the IT support team, those in the canteen and the office staff as our school could not function without them and we are all very much a team. We would like to farewell Dana Ellis as she goes on maternity leave though she will be with us for 3 days in the new year; Rebecca Beesey who is taking a year’s leave as well as Mersaedes O’Neill, Damien Wilson, Nick Woodgate, Laurie Whitehead, Suzanne Tarasiunas, Annette Lees, Caryn Hearsch, Leanne Blake, Rochelle Osbourne and Tamara Goulding who are taking up various new positions. We thank them for their work and wish them the best of luck in 2018.

Westgrove PS would also like to thank all of those people who volunteer for us. Those who work in the canteen, assist with Helping Hands and work on School Council volunteer their precious time to help and support the school and we truly appreciate their assistance, as we couldn’t function without them. I would also like to say a special thank you to our School Council president Samara Renton for all of her hard work and support this year leading the council to support the best interests of the students in the school.

Please be safe over this summer break. I hope you all enjoy happy holidays with your family and friends.
